Marcus Rashford has been told that 'no one cares' about his reputation at Barcelona, and former Premier League forward Troy Deeney believes that blunt reality is exactly what has helped the Englishman rediscover his form after a turbulent spell at Manchester United.

According to Deeney, the ex-Watford star, Rashford’s switch to Barcelona has given him the wake-up call he needed. He explained that the atmosphere at the Catalan club leaves no room for inflated egos, saying that compared to the legends who have graced Camp Nou, Rashford’s name means little. Deeney feels that this has grounded the 28-year-old and enabled him to flourish in La Liga.

Deeney praises Rashford’s improvement at Barcelona

In his column for The Sun, Deeney highlighted the transformation in Rashford’s attitude and output since trading the Premier League for La Liga. He wrote that the culture at Barcelona has forced a change in his mindset and professionalism. Since joining on loan, Rashford has netted 10 goals across all competitions for the Spanish giants, underlining his renewed confidence and commitment.

A wake-up call in Catalonia

Deeney elaborated that moving from being Manchester United’s poster boy to becoming one of many talented players at Barcelona has sparked Rashford’s revival. The former Birmingham striker said, “Leaving a club where he was a major figure, the message at Barcelona would have been clear: ‘We don’t care about Marcus Rashford; we had Lionel Messi here not long ago.’ They don’t care about his image, clothes, or opinions — he’s there to prove he deserves to wear that shirt.”

Discipline over stardom

Deeney also pointed out that Barcelona’s coaches made it clear that reputation alone doesn’t guarantee playing time. “It shows you can’t have things your own way,” he wrote. “You bend to Barcelona or you don’t play. They’ve shown Rashford, ‘This is how we do things here.’ If you align with that, the rewards follow — you’ll play for Barcelona, score goals, and represent England at the World Cup.”

Fighting for a place in England’s World Cup squad

With the World Cup approaching, Rashford’s strong run of form has reignited his chances of starting for Thomas Tuchel’s England side. Deeney compared him to Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon, adding, “If England were to start their World Cup campaign next week, I would pick Rashford on the left wing. Based purely on stats, Gordon might get the nod, but when you actually watch them play and see their attitudes, for me, it’s got to be Rashford.”
