The transfer window is witnessing a fierce battle as Liverpool FC and Paris Saint-Germain prepare to fight it out for the signature of Yan Diomande, with a staggering €130 million fee being discussed.

As reported by The Athletic, Liverpool FC have officially entered the race to sign the highly rated 19-year-old winger and have initiated direct talks with RB Leipzig. The Reds are currently considered to be in pole position to secure Diomande’s services, as The Athletic had already indicated towards the end of May.

This development contradicts earlier reports claiming that Diomande had already given the green signal to Paris Saint-Germain for a potential move. Addressing these rumours, the young forward commented, “I’ve been a PSG fan since I was a child. I think my father was a PSG fan too. But I’m not worrying about the future; I’m focusing entirely on the World Cup. We’ll see what happens after that.”

Interestingly, Diomande has also expressed admiration for Liverpool in previous interviews. “I’d like to play for Liverpool. I’m a huge Liverpool fan. My father dreams of seeing me play at Anfield one day. That’s my dream too – and I want to make it come true,” he had said earlier.

Speculation continues to swirl as Liverpool are reportedly looking for a new right winger to replace Mohamed Salah, who is expected to depart Anfield this summer.

As both Liverpool and PSG intensify their pursuit, Diomande’s market value has soared, prompting questions over whether RB Leipzig could indeed command a €130 million transfer fee.

With two financially powerful clubs vying for him following an impressive debut season in the Bundesliga—and both being among his dream destinations—RB Leipzig find themselves in a favourable position. The Athletic notes that this competitive dynamic could see the German club receiving their full asking price of €130 million for the young forward.

If completed, that deal would make the Ivory Coast international the second-most expensive transfer in Bundesliga history, behind only Ousmane Dembélé’s €148 million move from Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona.

Red Bull’s top executive, Oliver Mintzlaff, has, however, urged caution. The Red Bull CEO stated that RB Leipzig should avoid selling Amadou Diomande this summer, regardless of the offer. “If I were the sporting director, I wouldn’t sell this young player—who hasn’t even been with us for a full season yet—no matter what price is offered,” Mintzlaff told Sky in late April.

He further emphasized that Leipzig must set higher standards to avoid losing a player of Diomande’s calibre after just one year. “I can only advise the management to keep this player with us for the coming year as well,” he added, pointing out that Diomande “will certainly become even more expensive.”

RB Leipzig had initially signed the relatively unheralded Diomande from CD Leganés for €20 million—an amount that surprised many within the club. Captain David Raum admitted he was initially taken aback by the fee. “I checked his market value in the summer and then saw what we’d paid. I briefly asked whether there had been a typo in the offer or what the issue was,” the Germany international told Sky late last year.

However, Raum’s doubts disappeared after Diomande’s first training session. “I congratulated Marcel Schäfer on the transfer,” he said, referring to the club’s sporting director. Schäfer and Leipzig’s scouting department have since earned widespread praise for their recruitment strategy.

With 12 goals and 9 assists in 33 Bundesliga appearances, Diomande played a decisive role in helping RB Leipzig finish third and return to the UEFA Champions League, following a season without European football.

For the young Ivorian, this campaign might have been his final flourish in an RB Leipzig jersey.
