India Debut Not Far Away? BCCI Gives Major Update on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
Cricket Gully | June 4, 2026 3:44 AM CST

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had a really remarkable IPL 2026 season, and he finished the whole thing as the top run-getter even though he is only 15 years old. So obviously, the talk about getting him into the Indian squad has gotten louder, especially with the Ireland series coming up real soon .

Playing for Rajasthan Royals, Sooryavanshi put together 776 runs from 16 matches, with an average of 48.50 which is a pretty solid number, and a strike rate that looked basically unreal at 237. He didn’t just score, he carted it , too he hit a century, and he also notched quite a few scores that sat in the 90-plus band, including key contributions in the Eliminator and Qualifier 2.

Now RR may not have made it to the final, but Vaibhav still became one of the most discussed names on that championship night, largely because he collected a record set of individual awards . Among them, the standout was the Orange Cap, which is pretty much the big badge everyone wants.

Vaibhav backed for India call-up:

After his historic IPL run, the talk about whether he could get picked for the Ireland T20I series, has already picked up a lot of speed. MSK Prasad, the former India wicketkeeper and ex chief selector, thinks Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has already done enough to get a real chance at the international level.

Prasad told PTI: “He (Sooryavanshi) is not just a prodigy or a super talent. He is already among the best in the world in T20 cricket. He should be fast-tracked immediately into the Indian side. He should be picked for the Ireland series, which happens after the India A tri-series in Sri Lanka.”

In Prasad’s view, there’s not much reason to keep delaying the youngster’s rise, especially after he showed he can dominate proper bowling attacks through the entire IPL season. The ex selector also pointed out that Sooryavanshi’s inclusion in the India A squad for the coming Sri Lanka tour is yet another key step, toward earning a senior India debut.

He added: “I think it’s nicely poised for him to be drafted into the senior Indian team. I think he is going to flourish in the India A tri-series in Sri Lanka as well. See, there is no point holding him back. He is going to play for India soon, and he is going to play for a long time."

Prasad says the usual, rout e through India A cricket still has value, but every now and then exceptional talents deserve a quicker lane too. To him, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi very clearly fits that special category, even if the conventional path is normally the go to one.

“Playing India A and then playing for India is usually the norm, but playing high-pressure IPL among the best in the world is the best way to get into the Indian side. I think the selectors are also thinking along the same line. It’s just a matter of time before he will play for India and will play for a long time.”

India to play with Ireland in June:

At the same time, India will head to Ireland for a short two-match T20I series that’s set for June 26 to June 28. Since the series is brief, a few young players may get chances, while the senior stars are expected to be rested. So, as a result Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has kind of become a leading contender for, a maiden India cap. But BCCI well they haven’t really said yet, whether this 15-year-old will get an accelerated promotion anytime soon or not.

His immediate future might pretty much hinge on how he does in the India A series versus Sri Lanka. If Sooryavanshi keeps up that outstanding form, then his name will stay strongly in contention for the Ireland tour.
