Earlier this week, Enrique Riquelme officially declared that he would bring Ballon d’Or winner and Real Madrid target Erling Haaland to the Santiago Bernabéu if he is elected president of the club.
Riquelme further mentioned that additional details of his campaign promises would be disclosed throughout the week, adding that another major signing is also part of his ambitious project.
According to reports, the presidential candidate will unveil the name of his second marquee signing tomorrow. He has already confirmed that the player is from abroad. However, Sky Sports has reportedly revealed the identity of this player ahead of the official announcement.
As per the report, the player in question is none other than Manchester City’s Norwegian striker, Erling Haaland.
Riquelme envisions Haaland as a cornerstone of his Real Madrid project, viewing him as the ideal addition to strengthen the attacking unit and restore the club’s dominance in European football. Should he win the election, Riquelme is expected to make every effort to bring Haaland to Madrid.
The primary concern among fans and analysts, however, is how Kylian Mbappe and Haaland would operate together in the same system, particularly with Vinicius Jr. occupying the left flank. Both Mbappe and Haaland are natural central forwards, which could lead to tactical conflicts.
While Haaland is widely regarded as one of the best strikers in world football, securing his signature will be no easy task. A significant factor that might open the door for Real Madrid, however, is the departure of Pep Guardiola from Manchester City.
Guardiola’s exit marks the beginning of a new era for the Premier League champions, potentially bringing uncertainty and internal changes that Real Madrid could exploit in their pursuit of the prolific forward.
Despite that, Haaland’s long-term contract and high market valuation mean that any transfer would likely require a record-breaking fee. Whether such a deal could be financially feasible remains uncertain.
Moreover, signing a player of Haaland’s stature could create new dynamics within the dressing room, and managing those internal adjustments would be another challenge for the club’s leadership.
