Sports Desk. In the 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star batsman Virat Kohli has roared fiercely. This season, Kohli not only made a series of records with his strong batting, but also helped RCB win the IPL trophy for the second consecutive time by playing a magical inning of 75 not out in 42 balls in the final match against Gujarat Titans (GT). 37-year-old veteran King Kohli, who became the ‘Player of the Match’ in the final, broke many records throughout this season, but despite this, he could not even come close to breaking a historic record of former Australian legend David Warner, which has been made for 10 years.
That ‘great record’ of David Warner which is still out of Kohli’s reach
In fact, there is a unique record in the history of IPL, which is that of ‘scoring the most runs in a single season for a team that wins the IPL trophy’. Virat Kohli scored a total of 675 runs in 16 matches of IPL 2026 at an excellent average of 56.25 and a staggering strike rate of 165.84, which included one century and five half-centuries. Despite this excellent performance, he remained 173 runs behind Warner’s record. Exactly 10 years ago, i.e. in IPL 2016, David Warner had scored 848 runs in 17 matches at an average of 60.57 while making Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) the champion. That year, under the captaincy of Warner, Hyderabad won the title by defeating RCB by 8 runs in the final.

By the way, if we talk about the overall record of scoring most runs in a single season of IPL, it is still safe in the name of King Kohli. In the year 2016 itself, Kohli had scored an incredible 973 runs while batting in 16 matches, although RCB missed out on winning the title that year.
‘This thought often came to my mind…’ King Kohli became emotional after becoming champion
Gujarat Titans had given a target of 156 runs to RCB in this title match, which the Bengaluru team achieved by losing 5 wickets in 18 overs. Virat Kohli gave RCB victory by hitting a brilliant six off Arshad Khan and created history. Kohli looked a little emotional at the awards ceremony after this historic title win. Sharing his heart’s content, he said, “This is exactly the moment which every player dreams of since childhood. I had imagined this moment in my mind many times, especially to score winning runs for the team. When I was coming out to bat on the field, I was completely calm and comfortable. The combination of our team this time was such that it gives us complete confidence to get out of any difficult situation.”
