Another chapter at Anfield has come to an end, as Liverpool have confirmed the departure of defender Ibrahima Konate on Sunday.
During his five-year stint with the Reds, the French centre-back collected several major honours, including a Premier League winner’s medal from the 2024-25 season. He was also part of the squads that lifted the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup twice, and the FA Community Shield.
Despite discussions between the club and the player, both sides were unable to reach an agreement for a contract renewal, resulting in Konate leaving Liverpool as a free agent.
Alongside the official statement, the 25-year-old shared a heartfelt message with supporters, admitting that his decision to depart was only made recently.
“I am deeply saddened that I didn’t get the chance to say goodbye to all of you at the last game,” Konate wrote in his message. “At that moment, I didn’t realise it would be my final time wearing this shirt in front of you.”
The announcement arrives amid renewed transfer speculation linking Konate with a move to Real Madrid, while German champions Bayern Munich are also said to be interested in securing his services.
