West Ham United have officially announced that their Norwegian defender, Hansen, has suffered a serious knee injury, confirming the news on their club website earlier today.
The 28-year-old international sustained the injury during the World Sevens Football tournament held in Brentford last week. Hansen collapsed during the Hammers' group stage clash against Aston Villa on Friday and had to be carried off the pitch on a stretcher.
Following an assessment by the West Ham United medical staff, it has been confirmed that Hansen has ruptured her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). She is now set to consult a specialist to decide on the next course of treatment. However, early indications suggest that she will be sidelined for most of the 2026/2027 season.
At the World Sevens Football event, West Ham United were drawn in a group with Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Aston Villa. The Hammers began their campaign with a narrow 5-4 loss to Manchester United, followed by a 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. Rita Guarino’s team then ended their group stage with a 3-2 loss to Aston Villa, finishing at the bottom of their group.
Hansen joined the East London side from Bayern Munich during the January transfer window and went on to feature in eight matches for West Ham United in the Barclays Women’s Super League during the latter part of the season.
