The Congress Party has completely rejected all discussions of replacing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Karnataka. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said that these are just rumours, there is no truth in them. He clearly stated that the topic of the meeting held in Delhi was not at all about changing the Chief Minister.
KC Venugopal said that in the meeting with the High Command on Tuesday, only the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections and Legislative Council seats of Karnataka were discussed. The names of the candidates for these seats will be announced soon along with other states like Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand.
Why was there such speculation?
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivkumar had come to Delhi. After this visit, news of change in Chief Minister started circulating again. There have been reports earlier also of some party MLAs expressing their desire to make Shivkumar the Chief Minister. It was said that DK Shivakumar is demanding the post of CM, he wants the resignation of Siddaramaiah.
On which issues was there noise?
Some reports even said that Siddaramaiah may contest the Rajya Sabha elections, making Shivakumar the Chief Minister. Congress has termed all these news as just ‘rumours’ and has made it clear that there is no such plan as of now. Congress says that this meeting was completely routine and was held only for election preparations.
How did we know that ‘CM’ Siddaramaiah will remain?
After the meeting of Karnataka Congress leaders with the Congress high command at Indira Bhawan, KC Venugopal has told the entire story of the Karnataka chapter. There were reports of power struggle again in Karnataka Congress, but the party completely rejected them. For now, Siddaramaiah will remain the Chief Minister and the party’s entire focus is on the Rajya Sabha and Council elections.
If there is no discussion on changing the CM then why did DK-Siddaramaiah come to Delhi?
KC Venugopal said, ‘Today we discussed about the Rajya Sabha seats and Legislative Council seats of Karnataka. Candidates for Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council seats in Karnataka will be announced along with seats in other states like Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Jharkhand. That is all. This is what we have decided today. Apart from this, no other topic was discussed today.
KC Venugopal said, ‘Today we had a detailed meeting with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, General Secretary in-charge of Karnataka and I myself were involved in this discussion. Today’s entire discussion was focused only on the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections and Legislative Council elections of Karnataka.
