India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been dropped from the ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against Afghanistan and also removed as vice-captain of the Test team for the one-off match against the same opponents.

The Board selectors have appointed KL Rahul as the new vice-captain of the Indian Test side, which will be led by Shubman Gill.

India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for both the Test and ODI assignments as part of workload management ahead of the England tour later this year. Senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has also been rested from the one-off Test by the national selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar.

The selection committee met in Guwahati on Tuesday to finalise India’s squads for the home series against Afghanistan. The tour will begin with a one-off Test in Mullanpur starting June 6, followed by three ODIs scheduled in Dharamsala, Lucknow and Chennai from June 14 onward.

Young spinner Manav Suthar and pacer Gurnoor Brar have earned their maiden call-ups to the Indian Test squad. Both players are currently teammates at Gujarat Titans.

Fast bowler Prince Yadav has also received his first ODI call-up, while Ishan Kishan has been included as the second wicketkeeper in the limited-overs squad.
