Business Desk – LPG New Rate 2026: Due to the ongoing conflict between Iran and America, the LPG crisis has now come to the fore. Despite many claims to the contrary, it is no longer possible for state oil companies to hide the crisis. This is the reason why on Friday there was an unprecedented increase of Rs 1,000 in the prices of commercial gas cylinders in one go.
Reports suggest that the price of a small 5-kg gas cylinder has also been increased by a whopping Rs 261. The price of this ‘Chhotu’ (small) gas cylinder is now only Rs 31 less than the price of a normal domestic cooking gas cylinder.
Sources say that now is the turn to increase the prices of petrol and diesel. The government had originally made ‘Chhotu’ gas cylinders available to reduce the impact of the LPG crisis. It is mainly used by laborers and students. This decision has a serious impact on the students studying in urban centers as well as the working class.
The increase in the price of 5-kg gas cylinder has put a huge burden on students preparing for competitive exams. Apart from this, workers engaged in construction work in the real estate sector will also have to face difficulties.
How much has the price of cylinder increased?
In Lucknow, the price of a 5-kg gas cylinder has been directly increased by Rs 261. This cylinder is now being sold for Rs 885.50, while a normal 14.2-kg domestic cooking gas cylinder is available in the city for Rs 913. To put this in context, the price difference between the small 5-kg cylinder and a normal domestic gas cylinder has come down to only Rs 31. Earlier, the price of commercial gas cylinders had already increased to Rs 3,194.
‘Chhotu’ cylinder three times more expensive than domestic cooking gas
A comparison of the prices of a 14.2-kg domestic cooking gas cylinder and a 5-kg ‘Chhotu’ cylinder shows that the latter has become three times more expensive. The per kg price of domestic cooking gas cylinder is around Rs 64.29, while the per kg rate of 5 kg ‘Chhotu’ cylinder has now reached Rs 176.40. Obviously, the price per kilogram of these cylinders made for the weaker sections of the society and the needy is now skyrocketing.
Petrol and diesel prices also likely to increase
Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said that when prices in the global market increase by 30 percent, no country can remain untouched by it. In such circumstances it becomes necessary to take tough decisions. According to government sources, after the increase in LPG prices, now the time has come to increase the prices of petrol and diesel. Oil companies are currently incurring huge losses on every liter sold. It is expected that if the prices of petrol and diesel are adjusted according to the global market rates, then this increase could be in the range of Rs 25 to Rs 28 per liter.
