Voter ID is necessary not only for voting, but also for identity. Many times people get voter cards again at the new address after shifting from one state to another. This causes them to have two different EPIC numbers-which is a crime under the Represtation of the People Act, 1950.

Why is it a serious crime to make two Aadhaar cards?
Aadhaar card is a unique biometric identity card. UIDAI has a clear instruction that a person must have only one Aadhaar card.

If you have unknowingly built two Aadhaar, PAN or Voter IDs – then there is a need to improve, not to panic. Take these steps immediately:
- Surrender a document – visit the website or office of the concerned department
- Apply online to cancel duplicate
- Take the initiative yourself so that you do not become fined or a case
- Avoid giving false information – it falls under the category of crime
