The demand to increase the minimum pension under the Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) for private sector employees has been demanding for a long time.

In September 2014, the Center had fixed the minimum pension amount of Rs 1000 under the Karmatari Pension Scheme EPS run by EPFO. Under the EPF, employees deposit 12% of their basic salary in the provident fund, while the employers also contribute the same amount and out of this contribution made by the employer, 8.33 percent goes to EPS and 3.67 percent accounts are deposited.

Various demands of EPFO ​​members

The EPS-95 Movement Committee, an organization of pensioners, has said that Union Labor Minister Mansukh Mandavia has assured timely action on their demands including minimum pension under EPS-95. In a statement issued by the Pensioner's organization EPFO, it has been said that the central government has taken a positive attitude on the long pending demands of more than 78 lakh pensioners under EPFOs across the country.

According to the statement, apart from minimum EPS pension, the organization has demanded an increase in minimum pension, provision of free medical facility for retired employees and their life colleagues and improvement of applications for high pension benefits.

Will the minimum pension increase in 2025?

Prior to Budget 2025, a delegation of EPS-95 retired employees met Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and increased the demand for adding dearness allowance (DA) to increase the minimum pension to Rs 7,500 per month. According to the EPS-95 National Movement Committee, the Finance Minister assured the delegation that their demands would be considered. For the last 7-8 years, pensioners have been continuously demanding an increase in their pension.
