Mamta’s childhood was spent in poverty. Her father, a freedom fighter, passed away when she was only nine years old. After his father’s departure, the responsibility of the family fell on his shoulders. According to reports, he worked as a milk seller to support his mother and take care of his younger siblings.
Mamta Banerjee’s education
Despite financial difficulties, Mamata never gave up her education. He received an Honors degree in History from Jogamaya Devi College. Subsequently, he earned a master’s degree in Islamic History from the University of Calcutta. Along with this, he also studied Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) and Law from Jogesh Chandra Choudhary Law College.
Mamta Banerjee’s entry into politics
Mamta entered politics during her college days and became the General Secretary of Mahila Congress at a very young age. In the 1984 Lok Sabha elections, he surprised everyone by defeating CPI(M) leader Somnath Chatterjee from Jadavpur constituency. With this victory, she became the youngest MP at that time.
Mamata Banerjee’s different path
Mamta worked as a Union Minister in the Congress Party for a long time. However, differences of opinion began to emerge against the CPI(M) in West Bengal politics. He felt that the Congress party was not competing effectively in Bengal. Ultimately, he left the Congress in 1997 and founded his own party—the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC)—on January 1, 1998.
Simplicity and lifestyle of Mamata Banerjee
Mamta is known for her simplicity. Even after becoming Chief Minister, she does not live in any grand government residence; Rather, she lives in her old ancestral home. They have no desire for expensive cars or any kind of luxuries. Even today she wears simple cotton sarees and has made her mark only on the strength of hard work.
