Now more than 7.6 crore members of EPFO (Employees' Provident Fund Organization) can make changes in their name, date of birth and other personal information online without any verification by the employer or approval of EPFO. This new facility has come into effect from Saturday.
Additionally, members who are having EPF account (linked to Aadhaar) can directly file their EPF transfer claims online with Aadhaar OTP (One Time Password), without employer intervention.
Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya started the service
Union Labor and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launched these two new services on Saturday. He said that about 27 percent of the complaints filed by EPFO members are member profile/KYC . Now after the launch of these new services, these complaints are expected to reduce significantly.
The Minister said that now the employees have got the opportunity to correct the errors in their personal information. Earlier this work could not be done without being verified by the employer and approved by EPFO. Now employees have the facility to correct errors in their name, date of birth, gender, nationality, father/mother's name, marital status and other details.
Candidates with UAN issued after 2017 will get benefit
This facility will be available to those employees whose UAN (Universal Account Number) was issued after October 1, 2017. After October 1, 2017, when matching with Aadhaar became mandatory, no verification will be required for such employees.
But, if the UAN was issued before October 1, 2017, the employee will have to send it to EPFO for approval after getting it verified from the employer. This process was earlier called “Joint Declaration”.
Reason behind this decision
UAN registration is usually done by the employer for the employee, and there could have been errors in the personal details of some employees at the time of registration or later. Earlier, to rectify these errors, employees had to submit online requests along with supporting documents, which the employer had to verify and then send to EPFO.
However, out of the eight lakh requests sent by employers in the financial year 2024-25, only 40 per cent of the requests were sent within five days, while the rest of the requests took an average of 28 days to be sent. Now after this simplification, in 45 percent of the cases, employees will be able to make corrections in personal information instantly from their Aadhaar OTP. In the remaining 50 percent cases, correction will be done through the employer.
