Good news for poor and middle-class families. The centre is providing huge relief at a time when the prices of all kinds of food items and the burden of electricity charges are increasing. Fund allocation for subsidy on cooking gas cylinders under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana will continue. The government is likely to continue the financial support to oil marketing companies (OMCs) announced in the interim budget earlier this year, a report to 'ET NOW' said.
According to some government sources, the government is likely to allocate nearly Rs.9,000 crore LPG subsidy in the upcoming Union Budget. Financial assistance will be provided to the oil marketing companies and the entire amount related to the Ujjwala scheme will be transferred to the oil marketing companies.
Financial Assistance for Ujjwala Scheme

Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, the government provides a subsidy of Rs.300 per cylinder to the beneficiaries. The government has already extended this scheme till March 2025. 10 crore Ujjjwala customers are expected to benefit from this fund allocation.
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi took key decisions in a meeting held in March this year. Approved to continue subsidy of Rs.300 per year for up to 12 refills per 14.2 kg cylinder (proportionately for 5 kg cylinders).
These benefits will be available to the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) during the financial year 2024-25. As of March 1, 2024, there are more than 10.27 crore beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
In the current financial year (2024-25), the government has already transferred Rs.2,000 crore to oil marketing companies. Some reports suggest that this financial assistance will continue till 2026 to provide free LPG connections. It is noteworthy that the government has already announced more than 70 thousand new connections under this scheme.
Women belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes are eligible for this scheme. Or should be beneficiaries of schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana or Antyodaya Anna Yojana? That means those who are 18 years or above can apply.
Upcoming Union Budget Estimates
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the budget for the financial year 2024-25 in the Lok Sabha later this month. This budget may include parts of the 100-day plan prepared by Prime Minister Modi's team ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Additionally, the government may announce an extension of Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes to include more sectors that generate significant employment opportunities.
