In the epic tale of Mahabharata, the narratives of the Pandavas, Kauravas, and Draupadi are well-known, but few are aware of their only sister, Dushala.

While it is commonly acknowledged that there were five Pandavas and one hundred Kauravas, Dushala's story remains largely untold.

Who was this sister of the Pandavas and Kauravas, and what transpired when her husband cast a malicious gaze upon Draupadi?

Dushala's Life and Marriage

Dushala was the daughter of Dhritarashtra and Gandhari, cherished by all during her childhood. However, her life took a turn for the worse after her marriage.

She wed Jayadratha, the king of Sindhu, who was known for both his bravery and his dual nature.

Dushala's Struggles with Jayadratha

Dushala often found herself distressed by her husband Jayadratha's behavior, which fluctuated between kindness and cruelty, leading to a negative perception among women.

The situation escalated when Jayadratha crossed all limits and attempted to abduct Draupadi, casting a dark shadow over Dushala's life.

The Abduction of Draupadi

Upon learning of Draupadi's abduction, the Pandavas were furious and set out to rescue her.

When they confronted Jayadratha, they intended to behead him, but Draupadi intervened, reminding them that he was Dushala's husband and that killing him would leave her a widow.

The Consequences of Jayadratha's Actions

Respecting Draupadi's plea, the Pandavas spared Jayadratha's life but punished him by shaving his head.

This incident ignited a desire for revenge in Jayadratha, leading him to join Duryodhana's army in battle.

During the conflict, he deceitfully killed Arjuna's son, Abhimanyu. In retaliation, Arjuna, with Krishna's assistance, swiftly beheaded Jayadratha.

Ironically, while the Pandavas had spared Jayadratha for Dushala's sake, his actions ultimately resulted in her becoming a widow.
