RCB vs GT IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 Highlights: In Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Gujarat Titans (GT) suffered a crushing 92-run defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Dharamshala. Speaking to the broadcaster after the match, Gujarat captain Shubman Gill admitted that poor fielding and mistakes made under pressure cost the team dearly, due to which it had to face defeat.
With this defeat, Gujarat Titans’ hopes of reaching the finals directly were shattered. However, it is a matter of relief that the team still has one more chance left to go to the finals. At the same time, the current champion RCB has succeeded in reaching the final for the second consecutive time. GT was all out for just 162 runs in reply to RCB’s mammoth score of 254/5.
Gill told the reason for defeat
After the match, Shubman Gill said that I think we were playing well till the 12th or 13th over. I don’t think our fielding was good. We dropped a few catches and our ground fielding was also not as good as expected. Talking about the team’s defeat, Gill described it as a match from which the team would like to recover as soon as possible. He said that this is one of those matches which we would like to forget and start afresh in Mohali.
Rajat Patidar became the hero of RBC’s victory
RBC captain Rajat Patidar took full advantage of these missed opportunities against Gujarat and scored unbeaten 93 runs in just 39 balls. Gujarat also gave away runs through misfielding and no-balls in the middle overs, due to which RCB scored the highest score in IPL playoff history.
After losing the match, the GT captain said that the team regularly works on fielding in practice sessions and team meetings. Gill further said that we definitely discuss this in team meetings and practice sessions. There was enthusiasm, but under pressure we could not live up to expectations.
GT was seen struggling while chasing
Gujarat Titans never looked relaxed while chasing the challenging target of 255 runs on the Dharamshala pitch which is considered better for batting. The team kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Gill himself was out after scoring just two runs off Bhuvneshwar Kumar, while Jos Buttler’s quickfire 29 was the only positive aspect in the opening clash. After this, Rahul Tewatia was seen struggling alone after scoring 68 runs in 43 balls.
