The legendary opening batter recently found himself at the center of an animated exchange with a Mumbai Indians coaching staff member during a training session.

A short video of the same went viral on social media just a couple of days before the Mumbai Indians’ penultimate match of the IPL 2026 season against the KKR in Kolkata. Mumbai Indians veteran Rohit Sharma was spotted getting involved in a seemingly intense discussion with a coaching staff member of the franchise.

The staff member, unidentified from the video, paid attention as the legendary opener appeared to be explaining something in detail. The interaction, however, looked more instructional than heated.

Sharma blows hot and cold in injury-struck IPL 2026
Rohit Sharma recently made his return to the playing XI for the Mumbai Indians after a gap of over three weeks. Last month, the cricketer sustained an injury during a home game against the RCB at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. Upon his return, the former Mumbai Indians captain made an immediate impact with his match-winning 84-run knock from just 44 balls against the LSG in Mumbai. The legendary opener launched six boundaries and seven sixes in the game as the Mumbai Indians made light work of LSG’s 228-run total.

However, in a high-scoring game between the Mumbai Indians and the Punjab Kings in Dharamsala on May 14, Rohit Sharma struggled to get going and made just 25 from 26 balls with two sixes. Overall, the 39-year-old has aggregated 268 runs in seven innings of the IPL 2026 season at an average of 44.66 and with an electrifying strike rate of nearly 165.

Mumbai Indians bow out of IPL 2026 playoffs race
The Mumbai Indians franchise has also been eliminated from the IPL 2026 playoff race. The team sealed its dreadful fate after recording its eighth defeat of the season, doing so against the defending champions RCB on May 10 earlier this month. With just four wins and eight defeats from 12 matches, the Mumbai Indians franchise is currently ranked ninth on the IPL 2026 points table with mere eight points. Moreover, their NRR of -0.504 is also one of the worst among all ten sides of the competition.

With just two matches remaining in the tournament, the best the Mumbai Indians franchise can do is steer clear of the wooden spoon. The five-time champions will now take on the KKR in match number 65 of the IPL 2026 season on Wednesday, May 20. The match will be hosted by the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata, and the action will commence from 7:30 PM IST onwards.
