Bangkok: A major and painful road-rail accident occurred in Thailand’s capital Bangkok on Saturday afternoon. Here a speeding goods train hit a passenger bus hard at a railway crossing. In this horrific accident, at least 8 people died on the spot, while more than 20 people were seriously injured. According to local media reports, the accident occurred near an Airport Rail Link station located in the central area of the city.
The bus was stuck at the railway crossing
Bangkok’s emergency service ‘Erawan Medical Centre’ has confirmed the deaths. A heart-wrenching video of the incident is also going viral on social media. It can be seen in the video that there was a long queue of vehicles at the railway crossing. Meanwhile, an orange colored public bus crossing the track got stuck there and then a speeding goods train ran over it.
Fire broke out after collision, vehicles dragged
According to eyewitnesses, the collision was so severe that the goods train dragged the bus along with several other vehicles and motorcycles for a long distance. Soon after, a massive fire broke out in the bus. There was hue and cry on the spot after the accident. As soon as the information was received, the relief and rescue team reached the spot and controlled the fire and immediately admitted the injured to the nearest hospital. Officials have started investigating the matter to find out why the gate at the crossing was not closed or how the bus got stuck there.
