Kabul: The Taliban administration in Afghanistan has introduced a controversial new family law related to marriage, divorce and child marriage.
According to reports, the new law legalises child marriage in the country. At the same time, it allows individuals who were married during childhood to cancel the marriage after reaching adulthood.
The law also states that if an adult girl remains silent regarding a marriage proposal, it can be considered as her consent for the marriage. However, the silence of a boy or a married woman cannot be treated as consent for marriage.
The new law also gives judges the authority to intervene in cases related to allegations of adultery, religious conversion and missing husbands.
