New Delhi: Cannes Film Festival 2026 continues to witness Indian celebrities embracing traditional craftsmanship on the global stage, and actor Huma Qureshi joined the list with a striking Banarasi saree look inspired by Indian heritage. For her latest appearance at the French Riviera, Huma chose a purple and gold ensemble from Shanti Banaras that mixed classic weaving techniques with contemporary detailing. The actor paired the traditional drape with statement Indian jewellery and accessories from homegrown labels, turning the spotlight on Indian artisans at one of cinema’s biggest international events.
Sharing pictures of the look on social media, Huma reflected on the emotional connection she felt while wearing the weave at Cannes. Her outfit featured intricate gold brocade work, palm tree motifs inspired by the Riviera and carefully layered accessories that complemented the rich silk texture. The actor’s appearance once again highlighted how Indian handloom continues to find space on global fashion platforms.

‘From ghats of Banaras to French Riviera’
Sharing photographs from Cannes on May 16, Huma Qureshi described the emotional significance behind her latest appearance. “From the ghats of Banaras to the French Riviera. There’s something incredibly special about wearing a weave that feels like it has lived through time,” she wrote.
The actor further reflected on how the saree balanced heritage craftsmanship with modern design elements. “What I love most is how it holds two worlds at once. The nostalgia of a traditional Banarasi weave, and the quiet unexpectedness of motifs that feel contemporary and playful,” Huma added.
“At Cannes, surrounded by cinema and storytelling, it feels surreal to wear something that tells a story of its own,” she wrote further.
