Rory McIlroy's actions branded 'shocking' as PGA Championship star snubs fellow Brit

Rory McIlroy has been exposed by another British sporting star as he chases a second successive major title at the PGA Championship. The reigning Masters champion has an outside chance of glory at Aronimink Golf Club after recovering from a poor start to the tournament. He has broken into the top 10 and is chasing down leader Maverick McNealy with less than two days remaining.

McIlroy was a topic of discussion in the darts world earlier this week, with Josh Rock bringing him up as the Premier League travelled to Birmingham. Rock, who also hails from Northern Ireland, was quizzed on his relationship with the golf superstar and made an interesting revelation. Before taking to the stage, he claimed that he had tried to message McIlroy but did not receive a response.

After the interview had concluded, Sky Sports presenter Anna Woodhouse said that Rock had been 'left on read' by McIlroy, meaning he had seen the message and deliberately chosen not to reply.

Wayne Mardle was quick to reprimand the Holywood native during the broadcast, jokingly saying that it was 'shocking' behaviour on his part.

It comes just days after Rock made a reference to McIlroy after winning the Austrian Darts Open, the second European Tour victory of his career.

He was awarded the trophy plus the presentation of a jacket after beating Kevin Doets in the final, leading to comparisons with McIlroy's recent Masters triumph.

Rock, as reported on the official PDC website, said: "There's two Northern Irishmen to get a green jacket this year. I'm happy with that."

McIlroy, meanwhile, was recently named Northern Ireland's richest person under the age of 40, having won nearly £3.4million from his second Masters victory.

Endorsement deals with brands such as Taylormade and Nike also helped the 37-year-old to boost his valuation, making him the 17th-richest person in the under-40 category across the whole of the UK for 2026.

He boasts an estimated total net worth of £325m, according to the Sunday Times Rich List, dwarfing Rock's estimated value of around £650,000.
