Beijing: In a historic summit between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, the two leaders pledged to strengthen global stability and bilateral cooperation. Important issues like Taiwan, Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s nuclear program and economic partnership were discussed in detail in this meeting. This was the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders in China since 2017. The meeting took place at a time when the world is grappling with fears of war, energy crisis and economic uncertainty.
Xi Jinping, while formally welcoming Trump, issued a stern warning on the Taiwan issue. He described it as the most sensitive and important issue in China-US relations. Xi warned that any wrong move on Taiwan could lead to conflict and war between the two countries. He asked whether China and the US could avoid the Thucydides Trap and instead suggested building a new model of cooperation between major countries.
Agreement on Hormuz and Iran
Both leaders agreed that the Strait of Hormuz, crucial for global oil trade, must always remain open and secure. Xi Jinping clarified that China opposes any military deployment or toll collection on this route. Both sides also agreed that Iran should never acquire nuclear weapons. Trump described the meeting as “extremely positive and successful.” He called Xi Jinping his friend and a great leader. According to the White House, the two leaders emphasized further strengthening relations, increasing trade cooperation, opening the Chinese market for American companies, and increasing China’s purchase of American agricultural products.
Industrialists also participated in the meeting.
Jinping said that China and America should become partners, not rivals. He stressed that both countries should work together so that 2026 proves to be a new chapter in the relations between the two countries. Both the leaders agreed that differences should be resolved through dialogue and relations should never be allowed to deteriorate. Let us tell you that many leading industrialists of America including Elon Musk, Tim Cook also participated in this meeting. In the state banquet organized after the meeting, Trump invited Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan to visit the White House in September.
