A Gogglebox star was supported by her husband in a brand new episode on Friday evening as she completely broke down in tears. The emotional display came as Giles Wood and Mary Killen were watching some programming dedicated to Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday.

BBC aired David Attenborough's 100 Years on Planet Earth earlier this week, which was described as "a very special programme" to honour the national treasure. But it all got a bit too much for Mary who ended up in tears. "For me, David Attenborough is the male version of the Queen," she admitted. "I am proud to be British when I think of David Attenborough, but then I think of him..." Mary began sniffling as she became overcome with emotion.

"Steady," Giles warned as Mary sobbed: "He's just so perfect and admirable." Making light of the situation, her partner joked: "Unlike your miserable husband," which soon had her chuckling again.

They then shared a sweet moment as Mary said: "No, you've got a few good things about you, Nutty."

Before long, Jenny Newby was also crying as a very talented border collie dog delivered a handwritten letter from King Charles to David via hedgehog.

Her voice wobbled as she said: "Aw, they've all come out to take his card," and she wiped away tears. Her best friend, Lee, looked at her in disbelief as he said: "Jenny, it's not f***ing real!"

"I can't help it," she replied as she continued to cry.

Sir David admitted that he hoped to have a "quiet" day as good wishes from across the globe flooded in for his 100th birthday last Friday.

In a video message shared on Thursday evening through the BBC, Sir David said: "I had rather thought that I would celebrate my 100th birthday quietly, but it seems that many of you have had other ideas.

"I've been completely overwhelmed by birthday greetings from pre-school groups to care home residents and countless individuals and families of all ages. I simply can't reply to each of you all separately, but I would like to thank you all most sincerely for your kind messages and wish those of you who have planned your own local events have a very happy day."
