IPL 2026: Indian Premier League 2026 has now reached its most exciting phase, where every match is changing the picture of the playoffs. In this sequence, a very important match of the season will be played between Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings on Friday (May 15). This match to be held at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium has different meanings for both the teams.

While on one hand, Chennai Super Kings are eyeing a place in the top-4, on the other hand, Lucknow Super Giants, who are out of the playoff race, will take the field with the intention of saving honor and avenging their previous defeat.

Lucknow will enter revenge mode

The match between the two teams was recently played on May 10, in which Chennai Super Kings registered a resounding victory in the high-scoring match. In that 200-plus run match, CSK kept their playoff hopes alive by winning by five wickets.

In that match, all-rounder Jamie Overton bowled brilliantly and took three wickets for just 9 runs. At the same time, young batsman Urvil Patel played an important inning of 65 runs in an explosive manner and took the team to victory.

Now Lucknow will have a chance to settle the scores on home ground in Ekana. Although the team is out of the playoff race, it will definitely try to save its honor by winning in front of its fans.

CSK has a golden opportunity to reach top-4

Chennai Super Kings are currently placed fifth in the points table with 6 wins and 12 points from 11 matches. The team is looking in great shape after winning three consecutive matches.

If Chennai wins today’s match then it will reach 14 points. In such a situation, the path can be cleared to reach the fourth position by leaving Punjab Kings behind. On the other hand, if the team wins by a big margin, then on the basis of net run rate, Sunrisers can leave Hyderabad behind and reach the third position. This is the reason why this match is considered very important for CSK.

Change in winning combination

After three consecutive wins, Chennai Super Kings seem to be in no mood to make much changes in their playing combination. The team looks balanced under the leadership of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. The aggression of the top order including Sanju Samson in batting and the discipline of Anshul Kamboj in bowling have emerged as the biggest strengths of CSK.

However, MS Dhoni is still unavailable, while Jamie Overton is officially out of IPL 2026. Dion Forrester has been included in the team squad in his place. In such a situation, Chennai Super Kings can give a chance to either Spencer Johnson or Matt Henry in the final 11.

On the other hand, Lucknow Super Giants can give opportunities to young players, but the team management would like to avoid experimenting too much. Taking advantage of the home conditions, Lucknow would like to end the tournament with a win.

LSG vs CSK: Probable playing XI of both teams

LSG Probable Playing XII: Josh Inglis, Mitchell Marsh, Nicholas Pooran, Rishabh Pant (captain and wicketkeeper), Aiden Markram, Akshat Raghuvanshi, Shahbaz Ahmed, Himmat Singh, Mohammed Shami, Avesh Khan/Mayank Yadav, Digvesh Rathi, Prince Yadav.

CSK Probable Playing XII: Sanju Samson (wk), Ruturaj Gaikwad (captain), Urvil Patel, Karthik Sharma, Dewald Brewis, Shivam Dubey, Akeal Hosein, Prashant Veer, Anshul Kamboj, Noor Ahmed, Mukesh Chaudhary, Spencer Johnson/Matt Henry.

All eyes on the points table

The points table of IPL 2026 is currently at a very interesting point. RCB and Gujarat Titans are in the top two positions with 16 points each, while Sunrisers Hyderabad is at third place with 14 points.

In such a situation, Chennai Super Kings have a golden opportunity to make it to the top-4. On the other hand, Lucknow Super Giants is out of the playoff race and is at the bottom of the points table.

Now it will be interesting to see whether Chennai takes a strong step towards the playoffs with the win or Lucknow wins the ‘revenge game’ on its home ground.
