New Delhi. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has raised questions regarding the funding and expenditure of Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s foreign trips. He said that the ‘ambiguity’ in some of Rahul Gandhi’s travels is worrying, hence the Congress Party should give a clear answer to the country. Speaking to the media on Friday, Rijiju said that serious questions are being raised on Rahul Gandhi.

Being an MP, he should follow the rules and laws of India. If any MP wants to go on a foreign tour, he has to inform the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, the Ministry of External Affairs and the Home Ministry. Travel is done through passport-visa, but whenever Rahul Gandhi goes abroad after becoming an MP, he neither gives information nor tells where he stays or whom he meets.

The minister said that Rahul Gandhi’s security agencies are also worried because he goes anywhere without informing. He is currently the Leader of Opposition, hence the government will have to be held accountable if any untoward incident occurs. Giving figures, Rijiju said that Rahul Gandhi has gone on foreign tours 54 times so far, out of which there is no information about many of the tours. He said that his expenditure on these trips appears to be more than his income, which also becomes a matter to the Income Tax Department.

Kiren Rijiju appealed to the Congress and said, “I request the Congress Party and Rahul Gandhi to immediately make all the information public. This will be beneficial for them only. Otherwise, if any action is taken later, it would not be appropriate to say that they are being targeted.” He stressed that all countrymen, especially MPs, should follow the rules. It is important that the accounts of people’s salary and facilities received from taxes be transparent.
