Beijing. India’s new Ambassador to China Vikram Duraiswami held an introductory meeting with Hou Yanqi, Director General of China’s Border and Maritime Affairs Department and during this, border developments and bilateral relations were discussed. This department comes under the Foreign Ministry of China.
“The two sides had a fruitful exchange of views on developments in the India-China border areas and reviewed the positive momentum in bilateral relations,” the Indian Embassy in Beijing said in a post on X on Thursday.
“Both sides agreed that established mechanisms will be utilized to implement the vision of the leaders of the two countries for stable and mutually beneficial relations,” the post said. Vikram Duraiswami, a 1992-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, took charge this month. He had submitted his identity card to the Foreign Ministry of China on May 8.
This is a formal process after which a diplomat can officially begin serving as an ambassador or high commissioner. His appointment comes at a time when India and China are trying to improve relations that deteriorated after the military standoff in eastern Ladakh in April 2020. This standoff lasted for four years. Both countries are currently engaged in the process of normalizing relations at all levels, including the resumption of visa services and direct flights.
