Mumbai Indians had this huge opening chance to grab an early wicket in their game vs Punjab Kings, played at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. But Naman Dhir, kind of, just couldn’t hold on to what felt like a very normal catch in the second over of Jasprit Bumrah’s spell.

That moment showed up on the third ball of the second over, bowled by Bumrah. He sent in a short of-length delivery, sitting outside off stump. Prabhsimran Singh went for the shot, but it only turned into a thick outside edge, nothing tidy about it
The ball was heading straight towards Naman Dhir, who was positioned there for an easy take. On paper it looked like a clean grab, however Dhir somehow failed to secure it properly. The ball slipped from his grasp, and it ended up dropping onto the ground.
Jasprit Bumrah looked genuinely annoyed, after that missed chance. The right-arm pacer had created the moment with a sharp delivery and was really close to getting his first wicket of the evening.
Prabhsimran Singh got this big second chance after the let-off. In a pressure packed IPL contest, dropped opportunities can end up mattering later, a lot more than people think.

Punjab Kings Make a Steady Start After Early Escape
After three overs, Punjab Kings moved to 21/0. Priyansh Arya played a few attacking hits and stayed unbeaten on 12 off 8 balls, with two fours. Prabhsimran Singh, who survived that dropped catch, was still not out on 9, from 10 deliveries, and he had two boundaries too.
Mumbai Indians captain Jasprit Bumrah used two bowlers in those early overs. Deepak Chahar bowled 2 overs, giving away 12 runs without taking any wicket. Bumrah, meanwhile, bowled one over and conceded 9 runs.
Punjab Kings kept a positive mindset too, even with a bit of movement helping the fast bowlers in the beginning. The opening pair looked pretty at ease after getting past that early scare.
Punjab Kings also won a key toss call, with Mumbai Indians deciding to bowl first in the IPL 2026 match at Dharamsala. PBKS still had plenty of batting choices in the dugout, including Cooper Connolly, captain Shreyas Iyer, Shashank Singh, Azmatullah Omarzai, Marco Jansen and Yuzvendra Chahal.
