Vat Savitri Vrat 2026: Every year, on the new moon day of Jyeshtha month, married women observe the fast of Vat Savitri. Worship of the banyan tree on this day is considered to have great significance. There is a religious belief that observing the fast of Vat Savitri and worshiping the banyan tree prolongs the life of the husband. Also married life becomes happy. This fast is related to the story of Savitri and Satyavan. According to the legend, Savitri sat under a banyan tree and worshiped Satyavan to get his life back.
Seeing the worship of Savitri and the practice of Pativrata religion, Yamraj, the god of death, was forced to return Satyavan's life. It is believed that by fasting on this day and worshiping the banyan tree, one gets the blessings of the three gods Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh along with Yamraj. On this day, along with fasting and worship, a special remedy related to the banyan tree is also done. This opens the doors to progress for the husband and increases the income of the family.
When is Vat Savitri Vrat?
- According to the Vedic calendar, this time Amavasya Tithi will start on May 16 at 05:11 am.
- This date will be at 01:30 am on the intervening night of 16-17 May.
In such a situation, keeping in view the Udayatithi, this year the fast of Vat Savitri will be observed on 16th May i.e. Saturday.

Special remedy related to banyan tree
On the day of Vat Savitri fast, worship under the banyan tree and worship Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi with proper rituals. After lighting a ghee lamp, husband and wife should circumambulate the banyan tree together 11 times. There is a religious belief that doing this increases love in relationships and brings happiness and peace in married life.
