Jabalpur High Court has finally started the final hearing on the issue of 27 percent OBC reservation in Madhya Pradesh, which has been stuck in a legal battle for the last 7 years. The court is going to hear the final arguments on this matter daily till May 15 so that the verdict on OBC reservation can be given within the 3 months period given by the Supreme Court.

Today, on the first day of the final hearing, the High Court heard the arguments of the party opposing the increase in OBC reservation. Mainly, the Supreme Court’s guideline that the reservation limit should not exceed 50 percent was cited. After today’s hearing, the High Court has decided to continue the hearing tomorrow also.

OBC candidates took out rally in Jabalpur

The division bench of High Court Chief Justice, Sanjeev Kumar Sachdeva will hear the case again tomorrow from 3 pm. Here, the demonstration of OBC category candidates, who have been waiting for the decision for 7 years, was also seen in Jabalpur today. Hundreds of OBC candidates of different recruitment examinations from 50 districts of the state took out a rally.

The protesters wanted to go to the Advocate General’s office

The candidates participating in the rally wanted to go to the Advocate General’s office inside the High Court premises but were stopped by the security personnel. Affected by the 13 percent reservation hold, the OBC category candidates demanded the Advocate General to present strong arguments in the court and get a decision in their favor as soon as possible. Women also participated in this demonstration with their small children in the scorching heat.

Reservation was increased in 2019

Let us tell you that in Madhya Pradesh, OBC reservation was increased from 14 to 27 percent in the year 2019, but after being challenged in the court, the High Court had put an interim stay on giving increased reservation. The matter reached the Supreme Court but the highest court has sent it back to the MP High Court.
