Due to the increase in the prices of food items, there has been a slight increase in retail inflation in the month of April. There has been an increase of 0.08 percent in retail inflation in the month of April. The special thing is that since October, there has been a continuous increase in inflation. This is the sixth consecutive month of increase in inflation. However, inflation figures still remain below the RBI's tolerance level of 4 percent. How much did inflation increase in April?
If we look at the government figures, retail inflation in the country has come down to 3.48 percent in the month of April. Whereas in the month of March this figure was at 3.40 percent. By the way, in the month of October 2025, retail inflation in the country had come down to 0.25 percent. Since then there is a continuous increase in it. In the month of November this figure came to 0.71 percent. It was seen at 1.33 percent in the month of December. Retail inflation was seen at 2.74 percent in the month of January. Whereas in February the retail inflation figure came down to 3.21 percent. This means that retail inflation has been more than 3 percent for three consecutive months.
Increase in food inflation
Food inflation is considered to be the main reason for the increase in retail inflation. In which good progress has been seen. The year-on-year inflation rate based on All India Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI) for the month of April, 2026 as compared to April, 2025 is 4.20 percent (provisional). The respective inflation rates for rural and urban areas are 4.26 percent and 4.10 percent respectively. This means that food inflation has increased more in villages than in cities. The special thing is that in the month of March, food inflation was seen at 3.87 percent.
