The Uttar Pradesh government has intensified its anti-drug awareness efforts by involving women’s groups, educational institutions and community organisations in a broader campaign aimed at reducing substance abuse across the state. The initiative places particular focus on women and young people, with officials highlighting the role of families and local communities in preventing addiction.
According to officials associated with the programme, awareness activities are being conducted across all seven regional divisions of the state. Women linked to self-help groups, village organisations and local forums are participating in door-to-door outreach campaigns to educate families about the social and health-related risks associated with alcohol and narcotic substances.
The campaign is designed to encourage families to maintain stronger communication within households and pay closer attention to the well-being and activities of younger members. Women participating in these programmes are also being encouraged to guide children and teenagers toward constructive activities and away from situations that could expose them to addiction or harmful influences.
Educational institutions are also playing a significant role in the state-wide initiative. Schools and colleges in different districts are hosting seminars, poster-making competitions, essay contests and interactive sessions focused on substance abuse awareness. Through these programmes, students are being encouraged to adopt healthier routines and participate in sports, yoga and cultural or creative activities.
Counsellors and subject experts involved in these events are informing students about the long-term consequences of drug and alcohol addiction, including its impact on physical health, mental well-being, academic performance and career opportunities. In some institutions, students are also taking public pledges promoting the idea of a drug-free society.
