Sujata Sharma, on behalf of the Petroleum Ministry, has clarified that there is no shortage (dry out) of LPG in the country. Almost 95% of domestic gas cylinder delivery is being done through authentication code, thereby ensuring transparency and correct delivery. In the last two days alone, more than 87 lakh LPG cylinders have been successfully delivered.
Commercial and auto LPG sales also strong
According to the ministry, sales of 15,900 tonnes of commercial LPG have been recorded in the last 48 hours. At the same time, 876 tonnes of auto LPG was supplied through PMC. About 1.20 lakh 5 kg cylinders have also been sold to small consumers, which shows the balance of demand and supply.
PNG connections increasing, dependence on LPG decreasing
Piped Natural Gas (PNG) is also expanding rapidly in cities. In the last few days, 6.31 lakh connections have been gasified, while the infrastructure is ready for 2.67 lakh new connections. About 6.93 lakh consumers have registered for PNG and 49 thousand consumers have returned the LPG connection.
Situation normal at retail outlets, panic booking at some places
The situation remains normal at petrol and diesel retail outlets across the country and there is no supply disruption anywhere. However, in some areas, people are booking more out of panic, which is creating temporary pressure.
Strict action: raids and penalties
The ministry has increased strictness regarding following the rules. Raids were conducted at 2100 places yesterday and so far 3,139 show-cause notices have been issued. 366 distributors have been fined, while 75 have been suspended.
Refinery operations normal, shutdown procedure routine
Crude refineries are functioning normally and adequate stocks are available. Nayara Refinery is currently on maintenance shutdown, which will be restarted by the middle of this month. After this the shutdown of Reliance Refinery will begin. The ministry clarified that this is a regular process and the supply will not be affected.
Situation normal in port and shipping sector also
According to Opesh Kumar Sharma of the Ministry of Ports and Shipping, no incident involving any Indian sailor has been reported in the last 48 hours. There is no congestion at any port in the country and all operations are running smoothly. Overall, the government has made it clear that fuel supply is completely normal and people should avoid unnecessary panic.
