Electric passenger vehicle sales in India rose sharply in April, underlining strong demand across segments even as growth varied between categories.
Electric passenger vehicle sales in India grew by 75.14 per cent to 23,506 units in April 2026, compared with 13,421 units in the same month last year, the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations said on Wednesday.

Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations data showed that Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd led the segment with 8,543 units in April, up from 4,822 units in the same month last year, marking a growth of 77.17 per cent.
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd ranked second with 5,413 units, an increase of 63.98 per cent from 3,301 units in April last year. It was followed by JSW MG Motor India, which sold 5,006 units compared with 3,777 units in the same month last year, registering a growth of 32.54 per cent.
In the electric two-wheeler segment, FADA said total sales stood at 1,48,740 units last month, up from 92,538 units in April last year, reflecting a rise of 60.73 per cent.
TVS Motor Company led the segment with 37,683 units last month, compared with 19,976 units in April 2025, a growth of 88.64 per cent.
Bajaj Auto Ltd came second with 32,898 units, up from 19,162 units in April last year, marking a growth of 71.68 per cent. Ather Energy ranked third with 27,034 units, compared with 13,332 units in the year-ago month, a rise of 102.78 per cent.
FADA said electric three-wheeler sales stood at 64,549 units last month, as against 62,489 units in April 2025, reflecting a growth of 3.3 per cent.
Retail sales of electric commercial vehicles rose more than two-fold to 2,245 units last month, up from 902 units in April 2025, it added.
