In a bid to boost passenger engagement, the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited has introduced a unique initiative allowing people to host birthday parties, pre-wedding shoots, and even film projects inside Metro trains and station premises.
The move comes as Metro services in Indore and Bhopal struggle with lower-than-expected ridership.
Launched under the banner ‘Celebrations on Wheels’, the initiative opens up Metro coaches and select station areas for social and creative events, subject to safety guidelines and prescribed charges.
MPMRCL Managing Director S Krishna Chaitanya said the idea was inspired by the vibrant culture and evolving lifestyle of urban residents. “This initiative aims to bring the Metro closer to the public, offering a modern and safe space to celebrate special moments. It will help make Metro services a part of everyday life,” he said.
Under the scheme, activities such as film shoots, web series production, advertisements, documentaries, birthday celebrations, kitty parties, and pre-wedding shoots will be permitted.
As per officials, the cost is ?5,000 per hour for an undecorated stationary coach and ?7,000 per hour for a moving coach. Events like birthday parties and pre-wedding shoots can host up to 50 people, with additional attendees required to follow standard fare rules.
A refundable security deposit of ?20,000 per coach will also be charged at the time of booking. The amount will be returned after the event, provided all rules and guidelines are followed.
The initiative reflects an innovative attempt to enhance Metro usage while offering citizens a novel venue for celebrations.
