A brilliant unbeaten 87 from Sanju Samson powered Chennai Super Kings to a dominant eight-wicket win over Delhi Capitals in Match 48 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday.
Chasing 156, CSK made light work of the target, finishing at 159/2 in just 17.3 overs, with 15 balls to spare. Samson anchored the innings to perfection, controlling the chase from start to finish and ensuring there were no late hiccups.
Delhi Capitals, who opted to bat first, posted 155/7 in their 20 overs. Sameer Rizvi top-scored with an unbeaten 40, while Tristan Stubbs added 38. A late cameo from Ashutosh Sharma (14 off 5) provided a brief flourish, but the innings lacked strong partnerships.
CSK’s bowlers kept things tight throughout. Noor Ahmad impressed with 2/22, while Akeal Hosein (1/19) and Mukesh Choudhary struck at key moments to prevent Delhi from building momentum.
Delhi got off to a steady start with Pathum Nissanka scoring 19, but wickets at regular intervals derailed their progress. KL Rahul (12), Nitish Rana (15), and Karun Nair (13) all failed to convert starts, leaving the middle order under pressure.
In reply, CSK lost an early wicket when Lungi Ngidi dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad for 6. However, Samson quickly took charge, playing a fluent innings filled with clean hitting and smart shot selection.
He reached his fifty in just 32 balls and continued to accelerate, smashing 7 fours and 6 sixes in a commanding knock. At the other end, Kartik Sharma provided solid support with an unbeaten 41 off 31 balls as the duo stitched together a match-winning partnership.
The chase was wrapped up in style, with Sharma taking on T Natarajan in the closing stages, hitting a big six and a boundary to seal the win.
Delhi’s bowlers struggled to contain the flow of runs. Kuldeep Yadav and Natarajan proved expensive, while Mitchell Starc and Axar Patel failed to apply consistent pressure.
Samson’s match-winning knock ensured CSK turned a competitive total into a comfortable victory, strengthening their position in the IPL 2026 standings.
