×Chennai: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam held a meeting with its winning candidates in Chennai on Tuesday to discuss government formation as the Vijay-led party emerged as the largest party in the Tamil Nadu elections.
"We were told to be ready anytime for a call from the governor to prove majority," a party MLA told ET. "All MLAs were shifted to the Four Points hotel in Mamallapuram. We are expecting to stay here for a few days as talks are finalised," the leader said.
Earlier in the day, reports indicated that TVK chief Vijay had written to Lok Bhavan, staking a claim to form government despite short of a majority. He reportedly informed the governor that the party had secured 108 seats and, being the largest party, should be invited to form the government.

At the same time, the MLA cited above said discussions were ongoing with AIADMK, adding that while Congress, which has won five seats, is keen to support TVK, the party has not yet taken a decision. "There are talks with some AIADMK MLAs. There is considerable interest from their side, but it will ultimately come down to demands for ministerial berths."
AIADMK has won 47 seats. Sources said some of TVK's experienced leaders, including former AIADMK figures like KA Sengottaiyan and JCD Prabhakar, could play a key role if negotiations move forward.

OTHER OPTIONS FOR TVK
Other options for TVK include Congress, Left parties, and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi. Thirumavalavan's VCK and several smaller parties with single-digit seat tallies could also play a crucial role in government formation. Congress has won five seats, VCK two, the Left parties two each, IUML two seats and Vijayakanth's DMDK one seat. Parties like PMK, led by Dr Anbumani Ramadoss and part of AIADMK-led NDA, are reportedly exploring options to support TVK.
