A heartbreaking incident has unfolded in Houston, where a restaurateur and her two young children have tragically lost their lives. This follows the discovery of four deceased individuals at a residence in the River Oaks neighborhood, which authorities are investigating as a potential murder-suicide. The Houston Police Department responded to a call from a babysitter who expressed concern over the family's well-being around 5:30 PM local time on Monday. Upon arrival, officers found the bodies of two adults and two children, aged four and eight, all belonging to the same family. While the identities have not been officially confirmed, a homicide investigation is currently in progress.

The family has been identified as Matthew and Thy Mitchell, who were the proprietors of Traveler's Table. Thy's sister, Ly Mai, shared the devastating news on Facebook, stating, "We are heartbroken to share that my sister, Thy, and her beloved children, Maya and Max, passed away last night." She requested privacy for the family during this challenging time and did not mention Matthew Mitchell or the specifics surrounding the incident.

Thy Mitchell was a prominent figure in Houston's culinary scene, having co-founded the internationally inspired dining establishments Traveler's Table and Traveler's Cart alongside her husband. Originally from Chicago and raised in Houston, she was a first-generation Vietnamese-American who began her journey in the restaurant industry at a young age. After earning her degree from the University of Houston and gaining experience in hospitality and retail, she returned to her roots in 2019 to establish Traveler's Table. The couple later expanded their business with Traveler's Cart in 2024 and introduced a travel-themed clothing line, Foreign Fare, in 2023. In a 2024 interview with a local publication, Mitchell expressed, "We didn't always speak the language of places we traveled to. But we always had food in common." She was also actively involved in the local restaurant community, serving on the board of the Texas Restaurant Association's Houston chapter.
