Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was allegedly stabbed to death in broad daylight on Sunday (May 3).
Emergency services rushed to the scene in Northamptonshire just after 3pm amid reports that a man had been stabbed in Wellingborough on Birchfield Road.
But, despite the best efforts of emergency workers, the man tragically died at the scene. The man, aged 38, is believed to be Darren King. Two men, both aged 20, were arrested on suspicion of murder shortly after the incident and remain in police custod.
A significant police presence is expected to continue in the area into Monday (May 4) as officers work to piece together the sequence of events.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Cheryl Thompson, of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, described the killing as "tragic". "This is a tragic incident which has seen a man lose his life and our thoughts are with his loved ones at this time," she said.
"This is a fast-paced investigation, with two men arrested quickly and taken into custody. At this stage, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident."
Despite the arrests, officers are still appealing for anyone with information to come forward, with DI Thompson adding: "Although we have made two arrests, I would still appeal for any witnesses or anyone with information who has not yet come forward, to please do so."
Those with any knowledge of the incident are urged to get in touch with Northamptonshire Police on 101, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
