Siddapur (Koppal): At least nine passengers were injured, one of them critically, in a head-on collision between a private bus and a lorry near Gundur Cross on the outskirts of Siddapur in Karatagi taluk of Koppal district early Monday.
According to initial reports, a sleeper coach bus travelling from Bengaluru to Devadurga collided with a lorry carrying steel pipes that was on its way from Telangana to Hubballi. The impact of the crash severely damaged the front portions of both vehicles. The bus driver and eight passengers sustained injuries.
Rescue operation under wayLocal residents rushed to the spot and helped rescue passengers who were trapped inside the bus. The injured were shifted to government hospitals in Gangavathi, Sindhanur and Raichur. One person is said to be in a critical condition.
Traffic disruption
The accident led to major traffic disruption on the state highway for some time. Police officials, including the Gangavathi DySP and Karatagi PSI, visited the scene. The damaged vehicles were later cleared using a crane to restore traffic movement.
Preliminary investigation indicates that overspeeding by the lorry driver may have led to the accident.
