Army officer's wife's organ donation

In a remarkable act of courage and compassion, the family of the (41) year old wife of a serving Indian Army officer has agreed to donate her organs. He was declared brain dead on 2 May 2026 at Command Hospital, Chandimandir, Panchkula. In such an inspiring step, her husband along with their two young daughters supported organ donation. Turned his personal loss into a life-saving opportunity for others.

After the declaration of brain death, the heart was allotted to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi. A specialized medical team from Apollo Hospital acted swiftly, arranging immediate logistics and chartering a private jet to quickly transport the organ. The team reached Chandigarh, collected the heart from Command Hospital, Chandimandir and brought it back to New Delhi within the critical cold ischemic time.

Heart transplant in 14 year old boy

The heart was successfully transplanted into a 14-year-old boy who was suffering from 'end-stage heart failure'. Now he is stable and is being closely monitored in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This operation was possible due to excellent coordination between many agencies. Colonel Anurag Garg of Command Hospital, Chandigarh received special recognition for his leadership and coordination, which made the organ donation and transplant process successful.

Haryana Traffic Police, Punjab Traffic Police and Airports Authority of India in Chandigarh were also praised. He helped in getting approval for fast movement and priority basis for chartered flights. Anil Kumar, traffic in-charge sub-inspector of Badarpur in Delhi, oversaw the work of building a 'green corridor' from the airport to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, making it possible to reach the heart in just 20 minutes.
