Havana, May 3. Cuba has strongly condemned the increasing military threats from US President Donald Trump. “The US President is escalating threats of military aggression against Cuba to dangerous and unusual levels,” Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel wrote on the social media platform X. Diaz-Canel appealed to the international community and the American public to decide whether they will allow “such grave criminal acts” to be carried out in the interests of a small but influential and wealthy group that pursues the politics of revenge and domination.

He said that no aggressor, “no matter how powerful,” could subdue Cuba, but must face “a people committed to the defense of sovereignty and independence.” Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parilla also said on Twitter that Trump’s “clear and direct” threat of military attack has escalated aggression against Cuba to a dangerous level. Rodriguez said public support for the Cuban revolution was massive on Friday for May Day, when millions of people took to the streets.

Let us tell you that during an event in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump said that America could take control of Cuba “very soon” when it “finishes one thing” – which was a reference to the ongoing tension with Iran in the Middle East. He also said he could send the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln to the Caribbean, which could stop about 100 yards off the coast of Cuba “on its way back from Iran.” Earlier, Cuba had rejected the new US sanctions as “unilateral”. Cuba says these steps reflect its intention to collectively punish the Cuban people.

“We completely reject the recent unilateral measures adopted by the US government,” Bruno Rodriguez said. He also said that these measures are extrajudicial and violate the UN Charter, adding that the US has no right to impose such sanctions on Cuba or any third country. The response came as Trump signed an executive order on Friday imposing new sanctions on Cuba, directing it to block assets located within or under the control of the US.
