The 43rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 was played between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Delhi Capitals (DC). In this high-scoring match held at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur on Friday (May 1), DC executed the biggest run chase in its IPL history. RR had scored 225 runs for the loss of 6 wickets, which DC easily achieved by losing 3 wickets in 19.1 overs.
With this victory DC returned to the winning track. He had lost the last 3 matches. DC is now at sixth place in the table with 8 points from 9 matches. On the other hand, RR has faced another big defeat in Jaipur. He had scored 228 runs in the last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad here, yet he had to face defeat.
Rahul-Nisanka laid the foundation of victory
KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka gave DC a stormy start in the huge run chase. Both of them made an opening partnership of 110 runs in 9.3 overs. Nissanka was out after scoring 62 runs in 33 balls. After his departure, Rahul along with Nitish Rana took charge and took DC beyond 170. However, after this DC lost both the wickets in consecutive overs.
Nitish became the victim of Tushar Deshpande after scoring 33 runs in 17 balls, while Rahul (75 runs in 40 balls) was dismissed by Joffra Archer. It seemed that RR could make a comeback from here but Tristan Stubbs (18 not out in 11 balls) and Ashutosh Sharma (25 not out in 15 balls) did not give them any chance and easily gave the record win to DC.
Such was the innings of RR
RR, who came to bat first after winning the toss, did not have a good start. Yashasvi Jaiswal welcomed Mitchell Starc, playing the first match of IPL 2026, with a six but he lost his wicket after one ball on a full toss ball. In the next over, Vaibhav Suryavanshi opened his account with a four against Kyle Jamieson. Jamieson then bowled a yorker ball, on which Vaibhav was clean bowled.
After both the openers returned to the pavilion on 12 runs, captain Riyan Parag along with Dhruv Jurel took charge and made a partnership of 102 runs for the third wicket. Jurel moved a little slowly in this partnership. He returned to the pavilion after scoring 42 runs in 30 balls.
Parag remained stuck at one end and played an inning of 90 runs in 50 balls, which included 8 fours and 5 sixes. This was his first half-century innings of this season. After his departure, Donovan Ferreira hit 47 runs in 14 balls, hitting 2 fours and 6 sixes, taking RR to a big score but this also proved to be insufficient. For DC, Starc took 3 wickets for 40 runs in 4 overs.
