Succession star Jeremy Strong is boarding a gripping new project that will transport audiences to one of history’s darkest chapters. The Oscar-nominated actor will team up with an acclaimed international filmmaker making a highly anticipated creative leap for a thriller rooted in real events.

Jeremy Strong will star in The Passenger, a historical escape thriller directed by Magnus von Horn, Variety exclusively reported.
Meanwhile, FilmNation Entertainment has acquired worldwide rights to the film, excluding German-speaking territories and Poland. Notably, the project marks the English-language debut of von Horn, whose previous film The Girl with the Needle earned an Academy Award nomination for best international feature film.
Meanwhile, Strong earned an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Roy Cohn in The Apprentice and won an Emmy for Succession. He also won a Tony for the 2024 revival of An Enemy of the People. Additionally, Strong will next portray Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Reckoning, a follow-up to The Social Network.
Furthermore, von Horn co-wrote the script with Aleko Gotscheff, basing it on the 1938 novel by Ulrich Alexander Boschwitz. The novel became a U.K. Sunday Times Top Ten bestseller translated into over 30 languages. The film follows respected businessman Otto Silbermann as he flees Berlin after the November 1938 pogroms, known as Kristallnacht.
“I keep being struck by how history repeats itself. Boschwitz wrote ‘The Passenger’ as a 23-year-old refugee in 1938, he didn’t have the luxury of hindsight, and neither does Otto Silbermann,” von Horn said. “I want to make a film about that exact moment, the moment before someone admits the world has changed.”
Port au Prince Films and Lava Films produce the project, with FilmNation co-financing and launching sales at Cannes. Alice Laffillé, FilmNation’s vice president of sales, called von Horn “a true auteur filmmaker with an extraordinary ability to weave contemporary themes into historical narratives.” Producers Jan Krueger, Rosh Khodabakhsh and Mariusz Włodarski expressed excitement about partnering with von Horn, Strong and FilmNation on this story.
