Marichyasana is named after the sage ‘Marichi’. The word ‘Marichyasana’ is derived from Sanskrit. In this, ‘Marich’ means ray of light (sun or moon ray) and ‘Asana’ means sitting posture or yoga position.
The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India has emphasized the importance of Marichyasana. According to him, this is a sitting twisting asana, which is named after the sage Marichi.
This is very easy to do. To practice this, first sit on the yoga mat in Dandasana posture. Now bend your right knee and place your left hand outside your right thigh. While exhaling, turn to the right and look backwards. If possible, hold your hands behind your back. Take 5-10 deep breaths and repeat on the other side. In the beginning, do the asana slowly and under the supervision of a yoga teacher. Pay full attention to breathing, do not hurry.
Practicing this asana improves blood circulation, reduces stress and activates many abdominal organs, such as liver, kidney, spleen, stomach, pancreas, small intestine, gall bladder and reproductive system.
Regular yoga not only improves physical health but also provides mental peace. This asana makes the body flexible and keeps the mind calm. At the same time, breathing properly and concentrating is the biggest secret of this asana.
Its practice provides many benefits to the body, but along with doing yoga, it is equally important to have a balanced diet. Eating right keeps the digestion healthy, calms the mind and helps in physical and mental purification.
