Washington, April 28. During the White House correspondents dinner, revelations are being made one after another in the investigation of the firing case. The American authorities had detained the accused Cole Thomas Allen with weapons and his extensive interrogation is going on. Meanwhile, officials have said that the suspected gunman was going to target the President and senior administrative officials and for this he had planned a very careful plan. Authorities also said Allen had informed family members and a former employer about what he was going to do shortly before the attack in an email that included a document titled “Apology and Explanation.”

In the email, Allen wrote, “I sincerely apologize for any trouble I have caused, and also say that I do not expect any forgiveness for what he is about to do. The actions of my representatives affect me and I am no longer willing to tolerate the crimes.” US Attorney Jeanine Pirro said that after seeing the written document there is no doubt that Allen tried to assassinate the President.

Allen indicated in his message that he believed Secret Service people would be targeted only when necessary. Hotel staff and guests will not be its target. If absolutely necessary he will kill almost anyone. His admission reveals the potential magnitude of the threat. Investigators said it appeared the email was scheduled to be sent at a specific time before the attack. Not only this, the accused had traveled to many places for this and had taken stock of his situation inside the hotel before carrying out the attack.

Officials said that Col. Thomas Allen had started preparations long before the April 25 event. He was keeping an eye on the scheduled arrival of the President and had made arrangements for his residence at the same place. According to a federal affidavit, Allen made a booking on April 6 for three nights at the Washington Hilton from April 24 to 26. The booking came weeks after President Donald Trump publicly confirmed he would attend the dinner. Allen began the trip by train from his home near Los Angeles on April 21 and reached Chicago on April 23. He then proceeded to Washington DC, where he reached around 1 pm on 24 April.

He reached the hotel around 3 pm and stayed there overnight, keeping himself inside the same building where the high-profile event was scheduled to be held. Officials said Col. Thomas Allen was aware of the dinner event and the presence of senior American leaders. The event, organized in the presence of the President, Vice President and Cabinet officials, began at around 8 pm in a banquet hall located on the concourse floor of the hotel.

About 40 minutes later, Alan began his work. Acting Attorney General Todd Blench said, “At approximately 8:40 p.m., Allen approached a security checkpoint on the terrace level of the hotel. Authorities said he walked through the magnetometer armed with a long gun. Moments later, a gunshot was heard, prompting police to arrive at the scene. A Secret Service officer manning the checkpoint was shot in the chest, but survived because he was wearing a bulletproof vest.

The officer returned fire and Allen was quickly subdued. Blench said that this attack was not sudden but was well planned. Investigators reported that Allen had several weapons, including a 12-gauge shotgun and a .38 caliber pistol. Allen had purchased the weapons in California and transported them across state lines before reaching Washington.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said the events revealed a clear motive. He was fully conscious, he said. He decided to enter the banquet hall but was stopped by law enforcement officials before he could reach the main event. Investigators said additional evidence from the suspect’s hotel room, electronic devices and travel history is being reviewed. Whether anyone helped the accused in this work or not is also being investigated.
