After securing a win against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins, who made his IPL comeback with a one-wicket performance, shared a light-hearted take on the challenges faced by bowlers in today's T20 format. He also commended Ishan Kishan for effectively leading a group of young fast bowlers in his absence. This victory propelled SRH to the third position in the points table, following a five-wicket win at Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Saturday.
Focus on Batting Improvements
In the post-match presentation, Cummins expressed his satisfaction with the win, stating, "I’m really pleased with the outcome. The first game can be unpredictable, but our preparations were solid." Reflecting on the record chase of 229 runs at Jaipur, he humorously noted, "Honestly, we need to focus on our batting. It’s tough being a bowler in T20s these days."
Praise for Young Bowlers
Cummins highlighted the impressive performances of young Indian bowlers like Praful Hinge, Sakib Hussain, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who stepped up during his absence under Kishan's leadership. He remarked, "They have been fantastic. Ishan managed them excellently. With Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat also performing well this season, we have a strong group of bowlers, and the young talents have executed their plans effectively."
Confidence in Batting Line-up
Concluding his remarks, Cummins praised the batting lineup, particularly Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan, stating, "We started strong in the powerplay, maintaining a run rate of 10 runs per over. Abhishek and Ishan scored quickly, showcasing our calm and confident team spirit."
Rajasthan Royals' Impressive Total
After SRH chose to bowl first, RR's Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored a remarkable 103 runs off 37 balls, supported by Dhruv Jurel's 51 runs off 35 balls, forming a 112-run partnership. A late surge from Donovan Ferreira, who scored 33 runs off 13 balls, helped RR reach a total of 228/6. Eshan Malinga was the standout bowler for SRH, taking 2 wickets for 38 runs, while Cummins, Hinge, Hussain, and Reddy each claimed a wicket.
Successful Chase by SRH
In their chase, SRH faced an early setback with Travis Head's dismissal for 6 runs. However, a solid 132-run partnership between Abhishek Sharma (57 runs off 29 balls) and Ishan Kishan (74 runs off 31 balls), along with contributions from Heinrich Klaasen (29 runs off 24 balls) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (36 runs off 18 balls), led SRH to a five-wicket victory with nine balls remaining.
Current Points Table
With this win, SRH has climbed to the third position in the standings with five wins and three losses, totaling 10 points. Meanwhile, RR sits in fourth place, sharing the same win-loss record but with a lower net run rate.
