What is USB Killer : In today’s digital age, small gadgets have become an integral part of our lives. But if you see an unknown pen drive, think ten times before using it. Because that one mistake could cost you millions. The stranger is not just a simple USB pen drive, it can be a ‘USB killer’, which can permanently damage your expensive phone or laptop in seconds.
What is ‘USB Killer’?
The name ‘USB Killer’ itself makes it clear that this device is designed to destroy any electronic gadget. It looks very similar to a normal pen drive, which can easily fool people. Although the function of a pen drive is to store data, USB killer disables the device if the pen drive does not store data. Once it is attached to a phone, laptop or computer, it starts causing damage immediately.
Why is it so dangerous?
The most dangerous thing about USB killer is that it is almost impossible to detect. It looks like a normal USB drive, but its power is extremely dangerous. As soon as a device is connected, it sends a high-voltage current. Within seconds, the device may shut down completely and never restart. Its biggest disadvantage is that it directly targets the main IC (IC) of the motherboard, making it almost impossible to repair.
How does USB killer work?
USB killer works very smartly. When it’s plugged into a USB port, it starts drawing power from the device’s 5-volt supply. The capacitors in it store this electricity. Once fully charged, the device’s circuits rapidly convert this low voltage to a few hundred volts. This high voltage is then released back into the device in a flash through the USB port, burning out the internal circuits and permanently damaging the device.
How to avoid this danger?
- Do not insert any unknown USB drive into your device.
- Stay away from gadgets found in public places.
- Always buy accessories from a trusted source.
- Be aware of security at work or at home.
- One mistake, big loss.
A small carelessness can render your device worth thousands of rupees useless. So, the next time you see an unknown pen drive, think carefully before using it.
