Karkala: A 45-year-old bike rider was killed and his daughter seriously injured after a car rammed into their two-wheeler near the Nitte Community Health Centre Cross on Friday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Naveen Chandra Moolya (45), a resident of Bajakala near Nitte. His daughter, Prerana Moolya, sustained severe injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
According to reports, Naveen Chandra was returning home on his bike after dropping his daughter for the CET examination. While they were travelling from Karkala towards Nitte, a car coming at high speed from the opposite direction collided with their bike.
The impact of the collision threw both riders onto the road, causing serious head injuries. They were immediately shifted to a hospital, but Naveen Chandra did not respond to treatment and was declared dead.
Sources said that the car involved in the accident was carrying students from a nearby engineering college. Eyewitnesses alleged that rash and negligent driving led to the accident.
Local residents have also raised concerns over frequent incidents of overspeeding by students on this stretch of road, stating that it has become unsafe for commuters.
