In today's world, it can be challenging to discern whom to trust. A recent incident in Madalur village, located in Karnataka's Koppal district, highlights this grim reality. A 39-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted by a familiar acquaintance who deceived her into consuming alcohol, leading to a gang rape involving three other men.
The victim had traveled to Kushalnagar to meet acquaintances. During her visit, she was lured by Lakshman Kenchappa Karguli, who took her on a motorcycle to an isolated house. Initial investigations revealed that the victim and Karguli were known to each other. The woman reported to the police that Karguli tricked her into drinking alcohol under the guise of offering juice, after which he and three others—Basavaraj Sakrappa, Bhimappa Maski, and Shashikumar Maski—assaulted her.
In a desperate attempt, the victim managed to contact the police's emergency response system. Authorities arrived promptly and transported her to the government hospital in Yelburga, where her condition was deemed critical. Due to her deteriorating state, doctors referred her to KIMS hospital in Koppal. Reports indicate that her health remains serious.
The anguish of her husband was evident as he visited her in the hospital, having been informed that she had been involved in an accident. The police have apprehended all four suspects and presented them in court, where they were remanded to judicial custody.
